Bangkok, Thailand - A recent travel vlog has highlighted a persistent scam targeting tourists in popular areas of Bangkok. The vlogger, sharing a personal experience, described how individuals, often appearing to be official staff or helpful locals, approach tourists near major attractions like temples. They inform visitors that the site is temporarily closed, sometimes for a holiday or maintenance, and then suggest an alternative, supposedly authentic and inexpensive local experience, such as a boat trip. In the recounted incident, the vlogger was directed to a local port for a boat ride, initially presented as a significantly better and cheaper option. However, the proposed cost for a short 30-minute boat trip was an exorbitant 500 Thai Baht (approximately 500 Polish Zloty, as stated by the vlogger, likely a conversion error or exaggeration, but still very high). Upon realizing the inflated price, the vlogger declined, noting a sudden change in demeanor from the scammers. This type of deception is reportedly widespread, and tourists are advised to verify information directly at official ticket counters and be wary of unsolicited offers from strangers.
