High Waves Halt Fuel Deliveries to Bolivia, Causing Supply Concerns
Arica, Chile, May 22, 2025 - A significant weather event is causing major disruptions to fuel supplies in Bolivia. High waves, exceeding two meters in height, have shut down operations at the Sica Sica port, leaving five fuel tankers stranded. Three ships carry gasoline, and two are loaded with diesel, representing a substantial amount of fuel needed to supply the country. "We are currently experiencing a delay due to the high waves," stated Jhonny Chugimia, YPFB's Sectoral Manager of Oleoduct Transport, in an interview with BOLIVIA TV. He added that the port is expected to resume operations by May 28th if weather conditions improve. The delay is causing concern, but YPFB is working to ensure the country's fuel supply remains stable. The situation underscores the vulnerability of supply chains to unexpected weather events.
