
Insects Found in La Paz Cakes: 50kg of Confectionery Destroyed in Health Inspection
La Paz, Bolivia – In a recent joint operation by the La Paz municipal government and consumer protection agencies, inspectors uncovered a disturbing amount of contaminated food products at local bakeries and confectioneries. The operation, which took place on May 23rd, 2025, resulted in the seizure and destruction of over 50 kilograms of cakes infested with insects, along with 160 other expired items. "We found insects in the cream of several cakes, and the ingredients used were expired, dating back to 2021," stated one of the participating inspectors. The inspectors also found dried fruits in poor condition, posing a serious threat to public health. The authorities emphasized the importance of thorough food safety checks and urged consumers to carefully inspect their purchases. Following this incident, the city will be stepping up its inspections of food establishments to ensure the safety and quality of products.
