Bolivia Makes Rare Discovery: First Live 'Jochi with a Tail' Found in Santa Cruz Santa Cruz, Bolivia – In a remarkable discovery, Bolivia has recorded its first-ever live sighting of a "jochi con cola," a rare rodent species also known as a pacarana. The injured animal was found near Yapacani by brothers Nestor and Cesar Chamby, who were immediately struck by its unusual cry, similar to a human baby's. They contacted rescuer and expert Marcos Greminger, who provided remote instructions for its safe capture and transport. "When we heard the sound, we knew we had to help," said Nestor Chamby. "It was a very small, vulnerable creature." After a journey of over 280 kilometers, the pacarana arrived at the veterinary hospital of the Autonomous University of Beni in Trinidad. Veterinarians report that the animal, measuring 54 centimeters and weighing 6 kilograms, is recovering well, despite losing its front teeth due to the initial injury. The discovery, reported by environmental news agencies, marks a significant milestone in Bolivian wildlife studies. This event underscores the importance of wildlife conservation efforts in Bolivia and highlights the dedication of individuals committed to protecting endangered species. The pacarana's survival offers a glimmer of hope for the future of this rare animal.
