MAS-IPSP to Challenge Bolivian Parliamentarians Running for Other Parties
MAS-IPSP Seeks to Reclaim Parliamentary Seats in Bolivia La Paz, Bolivia – The Movement for Socialism – Instrumental Political Party (MAS-IPSP) has announced its intention to initiate legal proceedings to reclaim parliamentary seats currently held by members who are also candidates in the upcoming 2025 national elections, but under different political banners. This move follows concerns about potential conflicts of interest and a breach of party loyalty. CSUTCB leader Guery Garcia, in an interview with Bolivia TV, stated, "Those who have left to campaign for other parties should relinquish their current seats. It's a matter of ethics and respecting the mandate of the people who voted for the MAS-IPSP." The video shows footage of parliamentary sessions and highlights the case of Andronico Rodriguez, a senator who is reportedly running for another party while retaining his seat in the Senate. The MAS-IPSP plans to formally request the return of the seats through its national leadership, citing a violation of party regulations and principles. Legal action will be pursued through the Supreme Electoral Tribunal to ensure compliance with Bolivian law. This development is expected to add further complexity to the already tense political landscape in the lead-up to the national elections.
