Tibor Kapu, Hungary's second astronaut, successfully launched into space yesterday, June 25, 2025, from NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The Dragon spacecraft, propelled by a Falcon 9 rocket, lifted off at 8:31 AM Hungarian time. Kapu and his crew are expected to arrive at the International Space Station this afternoon. The 33-year-old astronaut will spend two weeks in orbit, undertaking 25 scientific experiments. These include crucial research in medical science, material science, and space biology, contributing significantly to Hungarian scientific advancements. This mission marks a historic moment for Hungary, occurring over 45 years after Bertalan Farkas's pioneering space flight in 1980. The Hungarian space program views this as a monumental step forward for national science and space exploration.
