Hungarian Astronaut Tibor Kapu Successfully Docks at International Space Station Budapest, Hungary – Hungarian astronaut Tibor Kapu, 33, has successfully docked at the International Space Station (ISS) with his crew, marking a historic moment as he becomes the second professional Hungarian astronaut to reach space. The journey to the orbiting laboratory spanned over 24 hours, culminating in a complex and precise docking procedure. The launch and initial ascent of the Dragon capsule, which transported Kapu and his team, proceeded as expected, quickly exiting Earth's atmosphere and crossing into outer space. However, the docking process itself is far from instantaneous, requiring meticulous planning and execution. The ISS orbits Earth at an astonishing speed of nearly 28,000 kilometers per hour, completing a full revolution approximately every 90 minutes. This rapid movement necessitates extremely fine-tuned navigation for any approaching spacecraft. As the Dragon capsule neared the station, various instruments and sensors provided critical support for the delicate alignment required for re-attachment. Following the precise approach, both the ISS crew and ground control provided final authorization for the maneuver's completion. The spacecraft then slowly re-attached to the docking port, specifically the Harmony module of the ISS. Fortunately, the entire process unfolded smoothly, allowing Tibor Kapu to soon commence his historic mission aboard the International Space Station.
