A recent social media video by user Brenttany has sparked widespread discussion regarding the stark differences in feminine hygiene products between Europe and the United States. The creator, who identifies as living in both NYC and Paris, showcased a European tampon, noting its lack of a plastic applicator and significantly lower price point, approximately 2.30 euros for a pack of 24. "The European girls are living a completely different reality than American girls," Brenttany stated in her video, expressing her initial confusion about the applicator-free design. She later lauded the European version for being "more sustainable for the world" due to the absence of plastic and for its affordability. "It was 2 euros and 30 cents for a pack of 24!" she exclaimed, questioning, "What the heck are we doing back home in the United States that is making us so freaking wasteful? And why are our tampons and feminine hygiene products so freaking expensive?" The video quickly garnered millions of views and thousands of comments, revealing a global conversation on the topic. Users from various countries weighed in, with one commenter from Germany explaining, "We have like 3-4 different sizes. Small normal strong super strong. It’s for how strong your flow is. It’s good for our earth." Another user from Italy confirmed, "In Italy we use tampax, really different from that one and pretty expensive." However, not all European users agreed, with one French user stating, "I use tampons with applicators every month and I’m french." The debate also touched on product preferences, with some advocating for menstrual cups as a "life changer."
