The Budget-Friendly DIY To Clean Those Gross Pillow Stains - House Digest
Pillows can develop a lot of gross stains, but you can actually refresh your pillows and have them looking good as new with some baking soda and vine…
A recent viral video by home care expert Babs, known as "brunchwithbabs" online, has revealed a surprising method for deep cleaning pillows, a process she terms "pillow stripping." The technique aims to remove accumulated body oils, detergent residue, and grime that regular washing machines often miss. The process involves filling a bathtub with the hottest possible water and dissolving a mixture of ¼ cup baking soda, ¼ cup borax, and 2 cups of liquid laundry detergent. Pillows are then submerged and soaked for up to 24 hours, with periodic flipping.Babs demonstrates the shocking amount of discoloration in the water after the soak, highlighting the unseen dirt removed from seemingly clean pillows. Following the soak, the pillows are squeezed of excess water, machine washed on a normal cycle without detergent, and then tumble dried with dryer or tennis balls to restore their fluffiness. While the method has gained significant attention, Babs advises checking pillow labels, as memory foam and down pillows may not be suitable for this deep-cleaning process.
