Société Générale Employees Strike Over Remote Work Policy Changes
Paris, France – Employees of Société Générale initiated a strike on June 27th, protesting the bank's decision to reduce the number of remote work days. Three major unions, including CGT, have called for the industrial action, demanding the maintenance of the current telework quota of two days per week. The bank's management intends to decrease this to a single day, citing a need to 'harmonize practices' across its international offices and 'improve employee performance.' Union representatives have strongly condemned the announcement, labeling it 'brutal' and highlighting the potential logistical and personal difficulties it could impose on a significant number of employees. The chosen strike date, preceding a weekend and month-end, was strategically selected to maximize disruption to banking operations. In a further act of protest, unions are planning an 'all on site' operation for July 3rd, aiming to demonstrate the logistical challenges that would arise if all employees were simultaneously required to be physically present at their workplaces. When contacted for comment by the AFP, Société Générale declined to provide a statement regarding the ongoing dispute.
