From Litter to Visas: Parisians Reveal What They Spend on Their Beloved Cats
Paris, France – A recent street interview conducted by Brut. has shed light on the financial commitments of cat owners in the city, revealing a spectrum of expenses from daily necessities to significant relocation costs. When asked about their most recent cat-related purchase, interviewees shared diverse answers. One young woman with red hair mentioned buying cat litter for €18, estimating her monthly spending on her Siamese cat, who is on a special diet due to its size, to be around €120. “She has specialized food, like from a vet, because she’s big,” she explained. Another interviewee, a man with three cats, stated that he spends approximately €100 per month solely on food, as his cats have different dietary needs, including one that is neutered. He noted that they don't eat the same food. A woman with dark hair indicated a higher monthly expenditure, around €200, for her cat’s food and litter. Her latest purchase was salmon pâté, her cat's favorite. She proudly displayed a picture of her cat on her phone, highlighting its importance to her. Perhaps the most striking account came from a woman who recently moved from New York to Paris with her cat. She revealed that the most significant expense was obtaining a special visa for her feline companion to travel to France. “We had to go to our veterinarian three different times, he had to have a chip put in, so I think all told that came to maybe $700,” she shared, adding, “It is expensive, but we weren’t willing to leave him behind. We’ve had him 11 years, so he’s very important to us.” She proudly displayed a photo of her cat sleeping on her lap. Other cat owners mentioned buying cat trees and various toys, with overall monthly costs often exceeding €100. The interviews collectively illustrate the dedication and financial investment many individuals make to ensure the well-being and happiness of their beloved pets.
