Romanian Citizen Calls for Sweeping State Reform and Accountability from New Premier
A Romanian citizen, speaking from his car, has issued a direct appeal to the new Prime Minister, Nicușor, urging a fundamental reform of the Romanian state. In a video widely shared online, the man asserts that the premier's mandate is to overhaul the system, not to perpetuate the existing "deep, parallel, securist state," as he described it. "You have no reason to stay there if the Romanian state remains the same," the man stated emphatically. He clarified that the true mandate is to "reform the state, to cut it, to make it minimal, and not to raise taxes that suffocate the middle class and entrepreneurs." He presented two alternatives if comprehensive reform is not achievable: "One, to resign and let Mr. Simion or Georgescu or whoever come and lead us all into the abyss. Two, to hold early elections, and again, let AUR or whoever else come, and let's see what happens in that situation." The speaker concluded by warning that the new premier risks becoming a "prisoner of the system" from the very first second of their mandate if they fail to enact meaningful change. His message underscores a sentiment among some citizens for drastic changes to the country's governance and economic policies.
