South Wales Woman's Shed Life: A Story of Resilience Amidst Homelessness and 'Broken Heart Syndrome'

A woman, known online as "Farmer K" (@buildergirl123), has shared a poignant account of her life in a shed in the South Wales valleys, detailing her journey through homelessness, financial hardship, and a recent diagnosis of "broken heart syndrome." Her video, uploaded on August 24, 2025, has garnered significant attention, with viewers expressing both admiration and concern. The video provides a tour of her insulated shed, which she has meticulously adapted into a living space, complete with a bed, television, and personal belongings. She showcases her outdoor cooking setup, where she prepares meals over a fire due to an inability to afford gas. "I'm struggling financially at the moment, it's really bad," she states, explaining her reliance on food banks and the kindness of neighbors. "I've got no food, I've got nothing to drink. I'm struggling."Her situation arose after a breakup, which led to her name being removed from housing lists. She highlights the challenge of securing housing while owning a dog, stating, "You can’t get on housing because you have a dog? Seriously? That’s unbelievable." She also tends to chickens and mentions a horse and pigeons on the land, which she is permitted to use by the owners.Adding to her challenges, she revealed a diagnosis of "broken heart syndrome," attributed by doctors to the immense stress of her circumstances. "It's through the stress... it's been a very sudden stress," she explained. Despite these hardships, she expresses gratitude for the support she has received, noting, "Everyone's been helping me. God bless their hearts." She is actively working to rebuild her life, including efforts to acquire meat rabbits and chickens to become more self-sufficient. She appealed to viewers in the Rhondda area for any form of assistance, from food to financial aid, emphasizing her lack of access to online banking or PayPal.
