Burkina Faso Opens New Veterinary Vaccine Production Unit Samandeni, Burkina Faso – In a significant step towards enhancing its livestock sector, Burkina Faso inaugurated a state-of-the-art veterinary vaccine production unit in Samandeni on May 23, 2025. The 40-hectare facility represents a major investment as part of the government's 2023-2025 agro-pastoral and fisheries development plan. The unit is designed to produce 110 million doses of vaccines annually, targeting diseases like Newcastle disease and contagious bovine pleuropneumonia. "This project is a game-changer for Burkina Faso," stated Saly Ouattara, the Minister of State in charge of Agriculture. "It will not only secure our national supply of veterinary vaccines but also create over 600 jobs, both directly and indirectly." The project is expected to save the country more than 10 billion CFA francs annually in import costs. The construction of the unit is expected to be completed within 18 months. This initiative marks a significant step towards self-sufficiency and economic growth in Burkina Faso's agricultural sector. The project's success promises a healthier and more resilient livestock population, contributing to food security and economic stability.
