MEXICO CITY – In a significant announcement, the Director General of Infonavit, Octavio Romero Oropeza, confirmed that the required points for the "Viviendas para el Bienestar" housing program have been drastically reduced from 1080 to just 100. This change aims to simplify the process and expand access to housing for more families. During a press conference, Romero Oropeza stated, "Before, 1080 points were required; now it's 100." He emphasized that the credit bureau check will solely be used to verify if applicants already possess a mortgage credit or own a home, ensuring the program benefits those without their own housing. "We have simplified the procedures by instructions of the President of the Republic," he added. Complementing these efforts, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the National Housing Commission (Conavi) will introduce a special scheme for workers without social security, including taxi drivers and delivery personnel. This initiative will involve registration processes and public housing auctions, further broadening access to affordable housing. Infonavit clarified that eligibility for families earning between one and two minimum wages, or those with similar contributions, will be verified through their contributions to Infonavit, which is a percentage of their salary. An interview process will also be conducted to confirm eligibility and ensure applicants do not have existing mortgage credits.
