A recent social media video featuring a sushi restaurant employee, identified as Candidamente, has gone viral, sparking a discussion about customer behavior and respect within the hospitality industry. In the black and white footage, Candidamente directly addresses viewers, expressing her profound frustration with various forms of disrespect she encounters in her workplace. "I work in a sushi restaurant and now I say enough," Candidamente states, her voice filled with emotion. She details instances where customers order excessive amounts of food, only to dispose of large quantities of uneaten sushi in paper napkins, often flushing them down toilets or stuffing them into trash bins. This behavior, she explains, leads to significant extra work for the staff, including unclogging toilets and handling discarded food waste. "Know that the next day, or even that same evening, there's a waiter who has to go and remove your filth from that bin," she asserts, highlighting the unpleasant realities faced by restaurant workers. Candidamente further emphasizes the human effort behind each dish. "In the kitchen, there are people, human like you, thoughtful like you, who have their days like you, who are doing their job," she explains, underscoring the time and dedication required for food preparation and service. She urges customers to "show respect" not only for the food but also for the staff who work tirelessly, often through "hellish shifts" and "sweat," always maintaining a smile for patrons. A significant portion of her message is dedicated to condemning racism. Candidamente recounts how customers, upon learning she is Italian, ask her "particularities" about her Asian colleagues, implying discriminatory curiosity. She directly challenges these attitudes: "Stop being racist... you are also racist with Chinese people, and then you go and eat at Chinese restaurants, do you know that?" She passionately defends her colleagues, stating, "They are people, exactly like us." The video also touches on trivial complaints, such as customers returning dishes over a single hair, despite staff wearing masks and having tied-back hair. Candidamente implores customers to be honest if they simply don't like a dish rather than fabricating reasons, and to refrain from leaving negative reviews based on "whims." Her candid appeal has resonated with many, drawing attention to the often-overlooked struggles of those working in the service sector.
