GRAND CANYON, AZ – A dramatic rescue unfolded recently on the challenging Kaibab Trail in the Grand Canyon after a horse went over the edge, leaving its owner severely injured. The incident occurred when the horse unexpectedly bucked off its rider, who sustained a tibia fracture in four places. Cassie, the video's creator, described the "gut-wrenching feeling" upon hearing the news and immediately set out to find the mare. "It wasn't even a decision… I knew I had to help," she stated. She located the horse on an "unbelievably steep" slope, noting that the ground was unstable and gave way underfoot. The mare was found trembling in fear, still saddled. Navigating the treacherous terrain, Cassie managed to remove the horse's tack. Due to the extreme steepness, it was deemed too dangerous to lead the horse out. Fortunately, the mare, showing remarkable resilience, found her own way back to the trail, sustaining only a few minor scratches. Meanwhile, the injured owner, described as a "strong woman with a beautiful heart," was carried to the top of the trail by Cassie's husband to receive medical assistance. She has since undergone surgery for her injuries. "Very thankful everything worked out that day & everyone, including the horse, made it back home," Cassie shared, expressing prayers for the owner's swift recovery.
