Airport Chaos: Passengers Miss Flights Due to Tweed New Haven Congestion
Tweed New Haven Airport Congestion Causes Passengers to Miss Flights Frustration and chaos reigned at Tweed New Haven Airport recently, as several families missed their flights due to significant congestion at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint. Eve Balestriere and her son Daniel, along with Marisa Rockwell and her family, were among those affected. They arrived hours before their Avelo Airlines flight to New Orleans, only to find themselves stuck in a lengthy TSA line. One of the airport's x-ray machines had malfunctioned, causing significant delays. Their flight departed without them. \"They were not very kind and helpful,\" said Balestriere. \"They kept reassuring us over and over again that don't worry, you'll get on your flight,\" added Rockwell. The families spent an additional $1300 to book new flights on a different airline. Avelo Airlines told TSA they did not inform passengers of the issue and that they would issue refunds, but the families interviewed had not received them. Tweed New Haven Airport CEO Michael Jones stated they are working to better space out flights. Tom Cavalieri, Tweed's Director of Community Engagement, explained that they limited entry into the main terminal for safety reasons on April 13th due to capacity issues. A third family also missed the same New Orleans flight but received a refund. Avelo Airlines stated all passengers were offered travel funds or refunds, but did not explain why some cases were handled differently.
