Six Inmates Escape New Orleans Jail in Dramatic Overnight Breakout
New Orleans Jailbreak: Six Inmates Still at Large After Midnight Escape A major manhunt is underway in New Orleans, Louisiana, following the escape of six inmates from the Orleans Parish Correctional Center early Friday morning. The escape, which involved ten inmates initially, occurred after midnight on May 16th, 2025. Surveillance video shows the inmates scaling a prison wall and crossing a busy highway. Authorities have arrested a 33-year-old maintenance worker, Sterling Williams, who allegedly turned off the water to the cell block, facilitating the escape. Inmate Antoine Massey threatened Williams with violence if he didn't cooperate. Three sheriff's employees have been suspended in connection with the incident. Kendall Myles, one of the escapees, was later identified and apprehended by police using facial recognition technology. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill commented on the situation, stating, “I think they’ve had the capacity to leave the city...the time involved with them being out gives them the capacity to leave.” She expressed concern for the safety of those with direct relationships to the escaped inmates. The investigation is ongoing, and further criminal charges are anticipated.
