New Orleans Jailbreak: Inmates Escape Through Toilet Hole, Staff Complicity Suspected
New Orleans Jailbreak: Seven Inmates Escape, Three Recaptured New Orleans, LA – In a shocking incident, seven of ten inmates escaped from the Orleans Justice Center jail early Friday morning. The escapees, described as "armed and dangerous," removed a toilet from the wall, creating a hole to make their escape. The daring escape was captured on prison surveillance cameras. Sheriff Susan Hutson addressed the media, stating, "They were still able to exit the jail about 1:01 a.m. after breaching a wall behind a toilet in the jail." Hutson also revealed that the inmates left taunting messages, writing "Too Easy LOL" near the hole. She added that "We have indication that these detainees received assistance in their escape from individuals inside of our department." Hutson placed blame on the city for failing to fund necessary upgrades to the jail, including faulty locks on cell doors. At least three of the escapees were being held for murder. One inmate was even found hiding under a hotel garage. The Louisiana Attorney General called the escape "beyond unacceptable" and criticized the delay in alerting the public. While three inmates have been recaptured, the incident highlights serious security concerns at the jail and raises questions about accountability.
