Barahona Celebrates Fourth Annual Plantain Festival Barahona, Dominican Republic – The vibrant sounds of traditional Dominican music filled the air this past weekend as the fourth annual Barahona Plantain Festival kicked off. This year's festival, held in Barahona, celebrated not only the plantain, a staple of Dominican cuisine, but also honored Emilio Galván, executive director of the Fondo Especial para el Desarrollo Agropecuario (FEDA), for his significant contributions to the region's agricultural growth. The festival featured captivating cultural performances, including traditional dances, showcasing the rich heritage of the region. Attendees enjoyed various plantain-based dishes and local products, creating a lively and festive atmosphere. Ramon Tavares, president of the Barahona Chamber of Commerce and Production, expressed his pride in the event, stating, "We are immensely proud to support this initiative that highlights our local products and the hard work of our farmers." The festival also recognized several local farmers, including Reinthon Gomez and Arsenio Reyes, for their dedication and commitment to plantain cultivation. The event concluded on Sunday with an exhibition of the region's agricultural products.
