

Bus Crash on Duarte Highway Leaves 26 Injured
At least 26 people were injured in a bus accident on the Duarte Highway in the Dominican Republic on June 2, 2025. The accident occurred near kilometer 40, close to Villa Altagracia. The bus, belonging to Transporte Espinal, was traveling from Puerto Plata when it veered off the road and overturned in a ditch. Ricardo Rodriguez, the bus driver, stated, "I lost control of the vehicle to avoid hitting another car." Emergency services responded swiftly, transporting the injured to various medical centers. Among the injured were Angelina Mendez, Paulina Fernandez, Virginia Paulino, Roberta Baez, Leonardo Lora, Gabriel Castillo, and Anna Almonte, as well as two children aged six and seven. A Civil Defense official commented, "Thank God there were no fatalities, but there are about 20 injured." The accident caused a significant traffic jam for several hours. This incident highlights the safety concerns on this stretch of highway, where a similar accident occurred just three days prior, resulting in a fatality.
