Saharan Dust Clears, Bringing Rain to Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – June 5, 2025 – The Dominican Republic can expect a change in weather patterns, according to CDN Canal 37 meteorologist Jean Suriel. In a short video released earlier today, Suriel reported that the Saharan dust cloud that has recently impacted the region has dissipated. This change, he explains, will lead to increased humidity from the Atlantic and Caribbean, resulting in moderate rain showers, particularly in southern, southeastern, eastern, northeastern, and northern areas, including the central cordillera. "We have seen an increase in cloudiness in several areas in the last 18 hours," Suriel stated. Looking ahead, Suriel forecasts another Saharan dust cloud approaching the Caribbean by Saturday, which will likely increase rainfall across the country by the following week. The improved conditions offer a welcome change for residents after days of dust and heat. The upcoming rain, however, may bring its own challenges. The forecast provides valuable information for the Dominican population, allowing for better preparation for the changing weather conditions.
