Dominican Republic Cracks Down on Undocumented Haitian Migrants
Dominican Migration Authorities Conduct Sweeping Check for Undocumented Haitian Migrants Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – On June 10, 2025, the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) conducted a significant operation targeting undocumented Haitian migrants. The operation took place at the toll plaza on the 6th of November highway, a major thoroughfare leading into Santo Domingo from the southern region of the country. DGM officers stopped and inspected numerous minibuses and buses throughout the afternoon. "The objective is to prevent undocumented individuals from entering Santo Domingo and other parts of the country," explained a DGM spokesperson in an interview. The operation resulted in the detention of six individuals. One woman detained, who identified herself only as Marie, stated, "I have all my papers; I don’t know why I’m being held." Another detainee, a carpenter, said he was simply on his way to work. All detainees were transported to the Jaibon recreational center. The operation, which began at 1:00 PM and concluded at 6:30 PM, highlights the ongoing challenges related to immigration in the Dominican Republic.
