Dominican Teen's Recycling Project: Turning Waste into Opportunity
Dominican Republic Teen's Recycling Initiative Brightens Students' Futures Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – Karla Faxas, a 19-year-old entrepreneur, has created "Cuadernos por un Mañana," an initiative transforming discarded school notebooks into reusable materials for students in need. The project, launched in 2022 while Faxas was still in high school, has already benefited hundreds of students. "Cuadernos por un Mañana is an initiative that arose from a need to give a new life to all those used notebooks at the end of the school year," Faxas explains. The project operates in four stages: collecting used notebooks, enlisting volunteers to prepare them, and finally, distributing them to students in need. The initiative has faced challenges, primarily in finding enough volunteers. However, partnerships with local printing companies have helped overcome production hurdles. The video shows the joy of students receiving the notebooks, emphasizing the positive impact on their education and the community's engagement in recycling. The project serves as an inspiring example of youth-led sustainable initiatives.
