Sudan Crisis: Millions Flee, Chad Overwhelmed by Refugee Influx
The Sudanese Civil War has caused the world’s worst displacement crisis, with over four million people fleeing the country since April 2023. Neighboring countries like Chad are struggling to cope with the influx of refugees. Chad alone has received over 800,000 refugees, but a severe lack of funding has left aid organizations struggling to meet their needs. "This is an unprecedented crisis," says UNHCR Protection Officer Dossou Patrice Ahouansou. "Only 14% of desperately needed aid has been funded." Refugees describe facing violence and theft as they escaped Sudan. The UNHCR is calling for urgent international assistance to help those affected.
