RUIDOSO, NEW MEXICO – A dramatic flash flood, triggered by heavy monsoon rains on July 8, swept through the mountain resort village of Ruidoso, New Mexico, causing significant damage and necessitating numerous swift-water rescues. Eyewitness video, verified by Reuters, captured a house being carried off by the flood-swollen Rio Ruidoso, highlighting the destructive power of the deluge. State emergency officials reported that dozens of individuals were trapped in homes and vehicles as the floodwaters surged. While no immediate fatalities or injuries were reported in Ruidoso, emergency teams, including local law enforcement and the National Guard, conducted at least 85 swift-water rescues to assist those affected. The incident in New Mexico follows closely on the heels of deadly flooding along the Guadalupe River in Texas just days prior, which tragically resulted in at least 109 deaths and many more missing, underscoring a period of severe weather across the region.
