Ghanaian Parliament to Tackle Mining License Legislation Next Week Ghana's legislative agenda for the upcoming week includes crucial discussions on the Legislative Instrument (LI) governing mining licenses, according to Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor. In an interview with Channel One TV, Dafeamekpor outlined key legislative activities planned for the second sitting of Parliament. He highlighted the importance of addressing the LI, stating, "Discussions on the Legislative Instrument (LI) governing mining licences will commence next week." The agenda also includes the ratification of 132 timber utilization contracts and a review of the Minerals and Mining Act 703. Dafeamekpor emphasized the need to update regulations, particularly regarding expired contracts, to ensure responsible resource management. He noted that some companies are still operating under expired contracts, a situation Parliament aims to rectify. "They need to bring them to parliament for ratification," Dafeamekpor explained. The upcoming parliamentary sitting promises to be impactful, addressing critical issues related to natural resource management and economic development in Ghana.
