Ghana Forum Highlights Mental Health Impact of Menstruation on Girls
Accra, Ghana – On May 28th, 2025, a Menstrual Hygiene Day forum took place at All St. Anglican Model Basic School in Accra. The event, organized by the Association of Nigerian Women in Ghana (ANWIG), focused on the often-overlooked psychological impact of menstruation on young girls. Psychologist and ANWIG Provost, Sterling Olubunmi, delivered a key address. "Many girls find it difficult to identify themselves within society due to societal stigma," Olubunmi stated. ANWIG provided free sanitary pads and essentials to students. The forum aimed to educate and raise awareness, helping girls navigate the challenges of puberty and understand their self-worth. The initiative offers a beacon of hope, emphasizing the importance of holistic support for young women's well-being.
