Ng Chee Meng to Skip New Singapore Cabinet: PM Wong Explains Temporary Absence
Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced on Wednesday that Ng Chee Meng, the secretary-general of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), will not be included in his new Cabinet. This decision, however, is temporary, Wong clarified. "Ng Chee Meng has requested not to be offered a position in government so that he can focus on his work in NTUC and Jalan Kayu," Wong explained. "I respect his wishes." The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the partnership between the People's Action Party (PAP) and NTUC, stating, "I value this link and I know that NTUC does too." While Ng Chee Meng will not be in the Cabinet, Wong assured that the government will continue to work closely with the labour movement. This temporary arrangement underscores the evolving dynamics within Singaporean politics and the ongoing collaboration between the government and labour leaders.
