
Singapore's PM Wong Unveils New Cabinet: Key Appointments and Changes
Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced a new cabinet lineup on May 21, 2025, following the People's Action Party's (PAP) decisive win in the May 3 general election. The changes include the appointment of Mr. Chan Chun Sing as the new Minister for Defence, taking over from Dr. Ng Eng Hen who retired after 14 years. Mr. Chan will also serve as Coordinating Minister for Public Services. Other notable appointments include Mr. Desmond Lee as Minister for Education and Minister-in-charge of Social Services Integration, and Mr. Chee Hong Tat as Minister for National Development. Mr. K Shanmugam will remain Minister for Home Affairs but relinquish his role as Minister for Law, with Mr. Edwin Tong taking over as Law Minister and Second Minister for Home Affairs. Mr. Ong Ye Kung will continue as Health Minister and become Coordinating Minister for Social Policies. Dr. Tan See Leng will be Minister for Manpower and Minister-in-charge of Energy and Science & Technology in the Ministry of Trade and Industry. New political office holders include Mr. Jeffrey Siow as Acting Minister for Transport, Mr. David Neo as Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Mr. Dinesh Vasu Dash as Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and Ms. Jasmin Lau as Minister of State in the Ministry of Digital Development and Information and the Ministry of Education. Mr Goh Pei Ming was appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Social and Family Development. Prime Minister Wong will retain his role as Minister for Finance and have Mr Gan Kim Yong as his sole Deputy Prime Minister. The Prime Minister also noted that the absence of NTUC secretary-general Ng Chee Meng from the cabinet is temporary.
