Thai Monastery Offers Unique Approach to Drug Addiction Rehabilitation
Saraburi, Thailand – A global documentary series, "Addicted," produced by CNA Insider, sheds light on the devastating impact of drug abuse worldwide. The series recently highlighted a unique rehabilitation program at Wat Tham Krabok monastery in Thailand. The program uses traditional methods such as herbal remedies and steam therapy to help addicts detoxify and overcome their psychological challenges. "The first five days are a battle against lingering toxins and emotions," explains Phra Ajarn Wijit Akkajitto, the Deputy abbot of the temple, describing the initial stages of the program. One patient, Elena, a Russian national, shared her experience: "When I used to do amphetamines, I was physically, emotionally, psychologically damaged already, and you don't even notice it." The program also involves physical activities and meditation to help patients rebuild their lives. The documentary's rare access to the monastery and its patients offers valuable insights into alternative rehabilitation approaches. The series underscores the need for comprehensive strategies to combat drug addiction globally.
