Singapore Cat Deaths: Accidents, Not Cruelty, Says NParks
Two Community Cat Deaths in Singapore Ruled Accidental, Says NParks Singapore, June 3, 2025 – The recent deaths of two community cats in Yishun and Punggol have been investigated by the National Parks Board (NParks). NParks Director of Enforcement and Investigation, Joshua Teoh, stated that based on post-mortem examinations and vet reports, "it is assessed that both cases were likely the result of vehicular accidents." He emphasized that there was "no evidence to suggest that either case was a deliberate act of animal cruelty." The investigation also revealed a consistent trend in reported animal cruelty cases over the years. Mr. Teoh noted that, "out of these cases that we investigated, not more than 6% of these cases were substantiated." Substantiated means there was evidence of deliberate cruelty. NParks' investigation involved attending the incident locations, conducting inquiries, interviewing potential witnesses, and reviewing CCTV footage. They also relied on professional reports from veterinary clinics, conducting post-mortems to determine the cause of death for deceased animals. This news offers reassurance to concerned animal lovers and highlights the thoroughness of NParks' investigations into animal welfare matters in Singapore.
