Singapore Study Reveals Shocking Bacteria Levels on Bath Towels
Singaporean households are being urged to change their bath towels more frequently after a recent study revealed alarming levels of bacteria and fungi on commonly used towels. The Channel NewsAsia (CNA) Insider team sent eight towels from different homes to a lab for testing. The results, as shown in a recent video, varied widely. One towel, belonging to the host Steven Chia, showed the highest levels of yeast and mould. "Terrible and nasty," commented Malini Thyagesan, a Senior Lecturer at Republic Polytechnic, upon examining the sample. The study highlighted that how often a towel is used and washed, as well as where it's dried, are all key factors. Dr. James Ho, a Senior Research Fellow at Nanyang Technological University, advised drying towels in sunlight or a well-ventilated area. The study serves as a reminder of the importance of proper hygiene practices to prevent skin infections, particularly for people with sensitive skin.
