Creative Gardening: Woman Transforms Old Dog Crate into Thriving Plant Trellis

A recent online video by gardening enthusiast Brandy, known as @chicknbeauty, showcases an innovative do-it-yourself project that transforms an old dog crate into a functional garden trellis. The project, shared on May 24, 2023, demonstrates a sustainable approach to expanding garden space with minimal cost. Brandy utilized discarded dog crate panels, cleaning and spray-painting them before assembling them with zip ties to create a sturdy screen structure. This framework supports several black fabric grow bags, which are filled with a combination of topsoil and potting soil. Within these grow bags, Brandy planted a variety of climbing vegetables and herbs, including spaghetti squash, zucchini, cucumber, and basil. A row of sunflowers was also planted behind the trellis, intended to provide natural shade during the hot afternoon sun and enhance the aesthetic appeal. The entire project, excluding the repurposed crate and existing grow bags, cost approximately $50 for new potting soil, plants, and sunflower seeds. This resourceful gardening hack offers an accessible way for others to maximize their planting areas.
