Chisinau Mayor Rejects Aid for Durlesti Fire Victims
A fire recently devastated several apartments in Durlesti, Moldova, leaving residents displaced and in need of urgent assistance. Zinaida Popa, head of the PAS faction in the Chisinau Municipal Council, requested emergency funding from the city's reserve fund. However, Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban rejected the request, stating that Durlesti, being outside the city limits, falls under the jurisdiction of the Moldovan government, not the Chisinau municipality. "Durlesti has its own commission for exceptional situations," Ceban explained during a press conference. While acknowledging the tragedy, Ceban emphasized the legal limitations of the Chisinau municipality's authority in such matters. He also noted that the city is considering financial aid within its budgetary constraints for urgent needs. The video shows the extent of the damage to the building, highlighting the urgency of the situation. This incident underscores the complexities of intergovernmental cooperation in emergency response and the challenges faced by local communities in securing timely aid.
