Chisinau Budget Sparks Political Firestorm: PSRM Accuses City Hall of Mismanagement
Chisinau's 2025 Budget Faces Scrutiny: PSRM Accuses City Hall of Lack of Transparency and Electoral Prioritization Chisinau, Moldova – The ruling PSRM party has launched a scathing attack on the city's proposed 2025 budget, criticizing its late arrival and lack of transparency. Councilors from the PSRM faction claim the budget prioritizes electoral gains over the genuine needs of Chisinau's citizens. "We are here today, May 20th, with great regret and enormous delay," stated Alexandr Odintsov, vice-chairman of the PSRM faction in the Municipal Council, during a press conference. "We consider this delay unacceptable and a consequence of the political games played in City Hall." The PSRM's criticism centers on the alleged lack of public consultation and the inclusion of projects designed to benefit the ruling party ahead of upcoming elections. Silviya Grigoryeva, a PSRM councilor, added, "The budget should develop the city and help its residents, not serve political purposes." Grigore Bejenaru, vice-chairman of the MAN faction, countered that the PSRM's claims are unfounded and politically motivated. He stated that the budget underwent thorough discussion and public consultations, implying the PSRM's criticism is merely a political maneuver. The debate highlights the tensions within Chisinau's municipal council and raises concerns about the transparency and fairness of the budget process. The situation underscores the importance of open and inclusive governance in allocating public funds.
