Aussies divided after woman's use of ChatGPT cost her a new job
A woman has ignited debate after being turned down from a job due to her 'heavy use' of ChatGPT.
A job applicant recently shared her experience of being rejected from a position, citing her use of ChatGPT as the primary reason for the decision. The applicant, who identifies as 'claritywithalex' online, detailed receiving a rejection email that specifically mentioned her reliance on the AI tool during the interview process. In a video posted on June 12, 2025, 'claritywithalex' expressed her frustration and defended her intelligent use of ChatGPT. She stated, "I’m proud to say that I use it because I use it to its edges, like I stretch it to its absolute edges and see how capable it is, and every single time it surprises me of what it can do for me." She further explained that as someone in operations, system management, and virtual assistance, and with ADHD, ChatGPT helps her organize thoughts and ideas into clear, succinct presentations. She questioned the negative perception surrounding AI use, asking, "Why is using ChatGPT a turn off? Because it’s so intelligent, and if you use it intelligently, it’s not like you’re just mindlessly, numbingly using it to do all your work for you. You’re collaborating with your brain and the AI to create something that is just amazing." Her experience highlights the ongoing debate about the integration of artificial intelligence into professional workflows and the varying stances employers may take on its adoption.
