ROME, Italy – Tens of thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators have mobilized across more than 80 cities in Italy, including major hubs like Rome and Milan, to voice their discontent with the Italian government's position on the Gaza conflict. On Monday, September 22, protesters called for an immediate cessation of weapon shipments to Israel via Italian ports and urged the government to follow countries such as the UK, Portugal, Australia, and Canada in recognizing a Palestinian state. CNN International Senior Correspondent Ben Wedeman reported from Rome, stating, "So many Italians are just appalled at the situation in Gaza and would like their government to do something, but the Italian government until now has been deaf to those calls for action." He highlighted the extensive impact of the protests, noting that "not only are there demonstrations throughout the country, there are strikes." In Rome's Termini area, train and underground services were halted, and taxi drivers joined the strike.
