Ivanka Trump Arrives in Venice for Bezos Wedding Amidst Tax Protests
Venice, Italy - Ivanka Trump, daughter of the former U.S. President, arrived in Venice on Tuesday with her husband, Jared Kushner, and their three children. Their visit precedes the highly anticipated wedding of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and journalist Lauren Sánchez, an event dubbed "the wedding of the century" by some. The couple is expected to host a large celebration on June 28, the day after exchanging vows. However, the lavish event has been met with significant protests in Venice. For over a week, hundreds of activists have demonstrated against Bezos and other billionaires, demanding they pay more taxes for various causes. A large banner featuring Bezos's image and a call for higher taxes was displayed in a prominent square. The "No Space for Bezos" group celebrated a victory after the protests reportedly led Bezos and Sánchez to change the location of their wedding party, moving it away from the historic city center. Despite initial condemnation of the protests by Venice's mayor, the president of the surrounding Veneto region announced that Bezos and Sánchez have donated the equivalent of $1.16 million to the Corila Consortium, an international scientific research group dedicated to the preservation of the Venetian lagoon.
