Guatemalan Deputy Exposes Millions in Potential IGSS Corruption
Guatemalan Deputy Exposes Potential Corruption in IGSS Furniture Purchases Guatemala City – Guatemalan Deputy Cristian Álvarez GT has released a video alleging significant irregularities in the recent purchase of furniture by the Instituto Guatemalteco de Seguridad Social (IGSS). The deputy's video, filmed on May 15th, 2025, shows documents detailing the separate purchase of melamine and other materials, at inflated prices, compared to the cost of purchasing complete furniture units. "They bought the melamine separately and then paid someone else to make the furniture," stated Álvarez GT in the video, highlighting what he claims is an attempt to inflate the overall cost of the project. He further points out discrepancies in delivery dates and contract signing dates, suggesting a lack of transparency in the process. The video shows Álvarez GT reviewing documents and discussing the matter with IGSS officials. The IGSS has yet to respond to these accusations. This investigation is ongoing and further details will be reported as they become available.
