Supermarket Caught with Discrepant Prices; ANPC Orders Temporary Closure
A recent inspection by Cristian Popescu Piedone, head of Romania's National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC), uncovered significant discrepancies between advertised prices and checkout prices at a local supermarket. The ANPC president and his colleague personally verified price differences on a range of products, including cigarettes, Kinder products, beer, and a 5+1 promotion. "We found prices that favored the consumer, and others that did not," Piedone stated during the inspection. The supermarket was previously inspected in April, and similar discrepancies were found. The current inspection resulted in a temporary closure of the checkout lines. This incident highlights the ongoing need for consumer protection measures and price transparency in Romania's retail sector. The ANPC's actions underscore their commitment to protecting consumers from unfair pricing practices.
