VENICE, ITALY – A British Airways flight en route from London Gatwick to Egypt was dramatically diverted to Venice Marco Polo Airport yesterday after multiple passengers and cabin crew reported feeling unwell onboard. The incident prompted an immediate emergency response, with firefighters in full hazmat suits boarding the aircraft upon its arrival. Melanie Wells, a 61-year-old passenger traveling with her daughter, recounted the unsettling experience. "I began to feel unwell shortly after boarding," Wells stated, initially attributing it to the cabin temperature. However, she claims, "the situation spiralled as travellers and cabin crew also became sick with staff going into 'full panic mode'." Upon landing in Venice, emergency services were on standby, with hazmat teams, equipped with breathing apparatus and scanning equipment, seen entering the aircraft to investigate the cause of the reported illness. Passengers remained onboard for a period while the situation was assessed. British Airways released a statement confirming the diversion due to a "technical issue" and stated that "no fumes were found on board." This statement, however, contrasts with some passenger accounts and concerns raised in online discussions regarding potential air contamination. The exact nature of the technical issue and the cause of the passengers' reported symptoms remain under investigation. All passengers eventually disembarked safely.
