An entrepreneur from the United States has revealed how he successfully launched a biohazard and crime scene cleanup business, earning a significant profit from his first job. Inspired by a TikTok video detailing the lucrative nature of the industry, David Schlum ventured into the specialized cleanup sector. Schlum recounted receiving his inaugural call from Dearborn Heights Police regarding a suicide cleanup in a basement. "There was blood everywhere, brains over here, brains over there," Schlum described the scene, admitting he "almost passed out" and stepped on a tooth. Overwhelmed by the graphic nature of the task, he reached out to the woman from the inspiring TikTok video, who provided him with essential guidance and a contract template without expecting anything in return. Schlum then dispatched his team to complete the cleanup. He noted the similarity between biohazard cleanup and mold remediation, stating, "It's a little different, but for the most part, it's the same thing." The particular cleanup job reportedly generated a revenue of $46,000, with an estimated total expenditure of only $10,000, including labor and materials, demonstrating a substantial profit margin for the new venture.
