Man 'takes risk' with 'charmless' kitchen renovation and gets strong reaction
A man decided to take a risk with his 'charmless' yet newly refurbished kitchen and his decision garnered a strong reaction.
Local DIY enthusiast Dawson, known online as 'Dawson | DIY & Design,' has unveiled the latest stage of his ambitious 1970s fixer-upper renovation: a dramatic kitchen backsplash installation. The project, part of his ongoing mission to restore character to a home previously stripped of its charm by a house flipper, involved a significant design decision to extend the tiling from the countertop all the way to the ceiling. Dawson described the initial state of his kitchen as lacking personality, having been painted entirely gray. His renovation efforts aim to infuse the space with unique character. The tiling process presented a moment of hesitation, as he contemplated whether to stop the backsplash at a floating shelf or commit to a full ceiling-height installation. Ultimately, Dawson took what he called a 'risk,' extending the dark-toned tiles to the ceiling. He noted his initial nervousness about the decision, acknowledging that 'you can't undo it' once the tiles are cemented. However, he expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, 'I cannot believe how much different this looks... I'm really glad I took some of the design risks.' The transformation has visibly brightened the kitchen, especially after removing protective paper from the white countertops. The project is nearing completion, with only a few elements remaining, such as curtains, faucet changes, trim, decor, and lighting. Dawson invites his followers to continue tracking his progress and celebrate the final reveal of his kitchen and dining room.
