Scrapyards in Spain are witnessing a notable increase in the arrival of MG brand vehicles, a trend that has sparked discussion among automotive professionals. According to workers at 'desguacemotocoche,' a prominent scrapyard, the influx of MG cars is not primarily due to inherent mechanical failures but rather a combination of factors related to accidents and the economics of repair. One scrapyard employee, speaking in a recent video, highlighted that MG vehicles, often perceived as budget-friendly Chinese imports, are proving to be surprisingly reliable. 'They practically don't break down,' he stated. However, even minor accidents can lead to these cars being written off. For instance, one silver MG car was shown with significant rear-end damage from a parking incident, while a black MG had severe front-end damage after reportedly running a stop sign. The core issue, according to the scrapyard staff, is that the cost of repairing accident damage often approaches or exceeds the market value of the vehicle itself. This economic reality makes it more practical for insurance companies to declare the cars a total loss, sending them to scrapyards for parts. Furthermore, the sheer volume of MG cars on Spanish roads contributes to their presence in salvage yards. 'More than 100,000 have been registered in 5 years,' another worker noted, equating this number to the entire population of Cádiz. This high registration rate naturally increases the probability of these vehicles being involved in accidents, regardless of their intrinsic quality. The workers concluded by inviting viewers to share other car brands they believe frequently end up in scrapyards, excluding certain common problematic models.
