Croatia Tackles Railway Crossing Dangers: Fines, Education, and a Call for Caution
Railway Crossing Safety in Croatia: A Call for Caution Croatia is facing a persistent issue with safety at railway crossings. In the past year alone, 25 accidents occurred, resulting in two fatalities. To address this, a preventative campaign, "Vlak je uvijek brži" (The train is always faster), aims to educate the public on safe practices. The campaign highlights the dangers of ignoring signals and emphasizes the significant fines for violations. "Ako je rampa spuštena stanite, nemojte raditi slalom i čuvajte sebe." (If the barrier is down, stop, don't slalom, and watch out for yourself), explains one campaign worker, emphasizing the simple yet critical steps to take. Local residents also shared their experiences, with one stating, "Kad idem biciklom, čekam možda po 10 minuta, pogotovo teretni vlak." (When I go by bicycle, I wait maybe 10 minutes, especially for a freight train). This highlights the significant delays caused by trains, underscoring the need for patience and caution. The video also details the penalties for violating crossing regulations, including fines of 320 to 990 euros and potential driving bans. The campaign's goal is to reduce accidents and improve safety at railway crossings across Croatia. The decrease in accidents this year, from 25 to 9, shows that educational campaigns can be effective.
