Fake Sunscreen Is More Common Than You Think. Here's How To Spot It
How do you know whether your trusty sunscreen is real or counterfeit?
A recent TikTok video by cosmetic scientist Dr. Julian Sass has raised concerns about the accuracy of the labeling on Clear Choice Sport Shield SPF 45 sunscreen. Dr. Sass's investigation revealed inconsistencies in the product's label, ingredient list, and texture. Tests using UV light and a UV-sensitive card showed the sunscreen lacked the advertised UV protection. Lab analysis confirmed the SPF was significantly lower than claimed (3.6 instead of 45) and that the product contained almost no zinc oxide. "The labeling is incorrect, the ingredient list is impossible, and the SPF is way off," said Dr. Sass. This case highlights the importance of verifying sunscreen claims and underscores the need for rigorous testing to ensure consumer safety.
