Mexico City Metro: Unexplained Needle Prickings Cause Public Alarm
Mexico City Metro Needle Prickings Spark Fear and Investigation Mexico City is grappling with a series of unsettling incidents involving reports of people being pricked with needles on the city's metro system. Dozens of people have come forward claiming to have experienced unexplained pricks while riding the metro, leading to widespread fear and concern among commuters. The incidents, which began in mid-March, have prompted an investigation by authorities. "I felt a prick in the middle of my back," said one victim interviewed in a TikTok video featured in the DW Español report. Another victim recounted a similar experience, adding, "I didn't realize it until I got off the station and started to feel a little strange." These accounts highlight the anxiety and uncertainty surrounding the events. While the Mexico City Attorney General's Office has confirmed 15 cases of puncture wounds, many more reports remain unverified. The lack of clarity has fueled speculation about the motive behind the attacks, with some initial theories suggesting possible links to kidnapping or sexual assault attempts. However, the Attorney General's office states there is no evidence to support these theories. Four individuals who reported the attacks have also reported having their belongings stolen. In response to the incidents, undercover police officers have been deployed to monitor the metro system. Authorities are urging passengers to remain calm and report any suspicious activity immediately. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are focused on identifying the perpetrators and determining the nature of the substances, if any, used in the attacks. In one case, a sleeping pill was found in a victim's system. The situation underscores the need for improved safety measures and transparency in addressing public safety concerns within the city's transportation system.
