Malaysian Government Initiates Budi Madani Diesel Subsidy Program to Aid Targeted Groups

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – The Malaysian government has officially launched the Budi Madani diesel subsidy program, effective May 28, 2024, aiming to mitigate the impact of rising diesel prices on targeted groups. The initiative, announced by the government, seeks to provide financial assistance to individuals and specific economic sectors. The program is structured into three main categories. The "Budi Individu" scheme offers RM200 in monthly cash assistance to eligible Malaysian citizens who own private diesel vehicles. To qualify, individuals or couples must have an annual income of RM100,000 or less, as per Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) data, and must not belong to the T20 income group. This assistance is intended to help offset the daily transportation costs for those using diesel vehicles. The second category, "Budi Agri-Komoditi," targets registered farmers, livestock breeders, and smallholders. These beneficiaries, who must be registered with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) or the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK), will also receive RM200 monthly cash aid. This support aims to alleviate the increased cost of diesel for agricultural machinery used in their operations. It is important to note that rice farmers and fishermen are not included in this initial phase of the targeted diesel subsidy. The third component, "MySubsidi Diesel," is designed for public transport and selected land goods transport vehicles. Under this scheme, eligible entities will receive diesel subsidies through a "fleet card" system. This is part of the Diesel Control System (SKDS) 1.0 and 2.0, covering various types of buses, taxis, and lorries, among others. Applications for all categories commenced on May 28, 2024, and can be submitted online via the official Budi Madani website at budimadani.gov.my. The website provides comprehensive information, including FAQs and application guidelines, to assist potential beneficiaries. The government emphasizes that this program is a targeted approach to ensure that subsidies reach those who genuinely need them, helping to manage living costs and support key economic activities.
